Abstract

The excursion sites include the 600 Ma old hypabysal kimberlite and UML occurrences and the related Sarfartoq carbonatite complex. Collectively the chosen sites will demonstrate the range from bona fide kimberlite to UML and carbonatite. The compoisitional variation in the lithospheric mantle is demonstrated by the range in retrieved nodules and megacrysts. One day will be devoted to ongoing exploration and tests at the Hudson Resources Ltd. occurrence at Garnet Lake.

Important themes and topics for discussion are the regional variations in the magmatism relative to the structure of the Precambrian shield, emplacement mechanisms, and the genetic relations between kimberlite, UML and carbonatite.
